Equipment and Resources to Borrow (House)

Route to (the Garden)

  • Turn left out of the main visitor reception.
    Follow the slightly sloped path down towards the house.
    Go through the gatehouse and follow the gravel path up a steep slope.
    Take the path to the right in front of the house.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.
  • The shuttle can go as far as the gatehouse.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the right hand side of the house.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There is a slight slope which overcomes the steps, just as you enter the garden.
    As you go to the higher garden section the slopes become steep.
    In places in the higher garden some of the slopes become very steep.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Entrance (Thatched Cottage)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building in the garden.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 110cm.

Attraction / Exhibit (Thatched Cottage)

  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: pictorial and information board.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are bench seats and chairs without armrests available in the area.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • Lighting levels are low.
