Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (Courtyard Tea-Room)

  • On leaving visitor reception, turn left onto a path which will take you directly to the courtyard.
    On entering the courtyard, the tea room is straight ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located in the courtyard.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 141cm.
  • The entrance opening has a minimum height of 200cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a tea room which serves hot and cold snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.

  • There are coffee tables, tables, armchairs, bench seats and chairs with armrests available in the seating area.
  • The seating area does not have: a priority table and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests.
  • Tables are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The surface height of the tables is 75cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.

Outdoor Seating Areas

  • There is step-free level access to the outdoor seating area.
  • Facilities in this area include: seats with armrests and a table.
  • There is a seat at a suitable height for a wheelchair user to transfer.
  • The surface height of the table is 74cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the tables is 71cm.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre within the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
  • The outside seating is in a courtyard outside the tea-room.

Entrance (Toilet Block)

  • The entrance surveyed is located in the courtyard opposite the tea room.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 220cm.
  • There is a second set of manual doors which open away from you.
  • The doors are activated by a push pad at a suitable height for seated users (between 75cm - 100cm).
  • The width of the opening is 192cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.

Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located in the courtyard opposite the tea room.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 32m from the tea room.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 87cm.
  • The door has a locking handle.
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 212cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 81cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a push button flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the left as you face the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.

  • The following have a high colour contrast with their surroundings: the toilet seat, the internal door, all grab rails and the dropdown rail.

Standard Toilet (Male)

  • Access into the toilet is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 81cm.
  • Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 67cm.
  • There is an ambulant cubicle available with horizontal grab rails on both sides and a vertical grab rail on the left.
  • The information above relates to the male toilet. There is a different configuration of rails in the female toilet.
  • The wash basin tap type is sensor.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are hand dryers.
  • There is a baby change facility at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

Standard Toilet (Female)

  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 81cm.
  • Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 67cm.
  • There is an ambulant cubicle available with a horizontal grab rail on the right and a vertical grab rail on the right.
  • The information above relates to the female toilet. There is a different configuration of rails in the male toilet.
  • The wash basin tap type is sensor.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are hand dryers.
  • There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
