Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (Courtyard Tea-Room)
- On leaving visitor reception, turn left onto a path which will take you directly to the courtyard.
On entering the courtyard, the tea room is straight ahead. - The route to the area is step-free level.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located in the courtyard.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 141cm.
- The entrance opening has a minimum height of 200cm.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a tea room which serves hot and cold snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.

Outdoor Seating Areas

- Facilities in this area include: seats with armrests and a table.
- There is a seat at a suitable height for a wheelchair user to transfer.
- The surface height of the table is 74cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the tables is 71cm.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre within the seating area (150cm x 150cm).
- The outside seating is in a courtyard outside the tea-room.
Entrance (Toilet Block)
- The entrance surveyed is located in the courtyard opposite the tea room.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 220cm.
- There is a second set of manual doors which open away from you.
- The doors are activated by a push pad at a suitable height for seated users (between 75cm - 100cm).
- The width of the opening is 192cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
Toilet with Adaptations (Left Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located in the courtyard opposite the tea room.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 32m from the tea room.
- There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 87cm.
- The door has a locking handle.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 212cm and it has a turning space of at least 150cm x 150cm.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 81cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a push button flush on the non transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the left as you face the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.

- The width of the door opening is 81cm.
- Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 67cm.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with horizontal grab rails on both sides and a vertical grab rail on the left.
- The information above relates to the male toilet. There is a different configuration of rails in the female toilet.
- The wash basin tap type is sensor.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
- There is a baby change facility at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
Standard Toilet (Female)
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 81cm.
- Internally the door has a medium colour contrast.
- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 67cm.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with a horizontal grab rail on the right and a vertical grab rail on the right.
- The information above relates to the female toilet. There is a different configuration of rails in the male toilet.
- The wash basin tap type is sensor.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There are hand dryers.
- There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
