Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the American Garden)

  • Turn right out the visitor reception exit and go towards the shop entrance.
    Exit the shop, turn right, go across the stables courtyard and head towards a large open archway on the right.
    Follow the gravel path to the end and before the signs for the house turn right down a track.
    The garden will be on the left down a grass slope.
  • The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac, gravel and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the left off the track from the stables.
  • Access into the area is via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass.
  • Footpaths are not available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are steep slopes throughout the area.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
