Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders.

- Canes and walking poles are also available to borrow free of charge.
These can be borrowed from the visitor reception or the house.
The visitor shuttle is stationed outside visitor reception, but can be summoned to the house, car park, chapel or garden by using the call point in the car park or by speaking to a member of staff or volunteer.
Route to (the Stables Coffee Shop)
- Turn left out of the visitor reception entrance and the coffee shop is on the left.
- The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are cobbles.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance (Left - Lower Seating Area)
- The entrance surveyed is located to the front left of the building.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The steep slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 110cm.
- There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 98cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- This entrance gives access to the lower seating area that would be accessed via steps from within the building.
Entrance (Main)
- The entrance surveyed is located to the centre of the building.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The steep slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a single manual gate which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 111cm.
- There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 111cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- This entrance gives access to the counter area.
Entrance (Right - Lower Seating Area)
- The entrance surveyed is located to the front right of the building.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The steep slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are double manual gates which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 248cm.
- There is a second set of manual doors (with one door locked) which open towards you.
- The width of the opening is 113cm.
- This entrance gives access to the lower seating area that would be accessed via a ramp from within the building.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus.
- Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
- Lighting levels are bright.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.
- The counter is 108cm high.
- There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

- There are tables, high tables, bench seats, high stools and chairs without armrests available in the seating area.

- The ramp has a handrail on the left going down.
- Lighting levels are bright.
Picnic Area (Courtyard)
- The following information describes the picnic area located in the courtyard in front of the coffee shop.
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 76cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 76cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 80cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to cobbles.
