Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Canes and walking poles are also available to borrow free of charge.
These can be borrowed from the visitor reception or the house.
The visitor shuttle is stationed outside visitor reception, but can be summoned to the house, car park, chapel or garden by using the call point in the car park or by speaking to a member of staff or volunteer.
Route to (the Play and Picnic Area)
- Continue through the car park to the overflow car park area.
The play area and picnic area will be on the right. - The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac, muddy and cobbles.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces (Play Area)
- This information is for the access point located at the top of the car park.
- Access into the area is via steps.
- There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
- The gate is not self-closing.
- The gate has a latch lock.
- The width of the gap is 140cm.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: wood bark and grass.
- Footpaths are not available in all of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- The slight slopes are throughout the play area.
- There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Playground
View
- There is a route around the play equipment which is firm and even, and is at least 150cm wide.
- The play equipment is in easy reach for seated and standing users, and users of different heights.
- The following play experiences are available: swinging, sliding, climbing and balancing.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located next to the play area.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 67cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 67cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 71cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.
- There is a slightly sloped open access point leading from the picnic area to the play area.
