Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Canes and walking poles are also available to borrow free of charge.
    These can be borrowed from the visitor reception or the house.
    The visitor shuttle is stationed outside visitor reception, but can be summoned to the house, car park, chapel or garden by using the call point in the car park or by speaking to a member of staff or volunteer.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located via the gate down the slope from the visitor reception.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
  • The gate is self-closing.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 114cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • As you make your way back to the entrance below the house, there are slight slopes.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.

Hikes and Trails (Front Park Route)

  • The trail is approximately 1/4 of a mile long.
  • Turn right out of the visitor reception through an archway, and take the first path on the right.
    Just after the play area turn left and go down a slope to a gate with a width of 114cm.
    Go straight across the field towards the cricket pitch.
    Go around the cricket pitch, past the cricket pavilion on the right.
    Turn right at the top and follow the track back past the house on the left to the entrance gate.
  • The trail is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, cobbled, grass, gravel and mud.
  • The route is not clearly signposted.
  • The route has handheld maps.
  • Seating is not available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.

Picnic Area (Front Park Route)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located to the left of the path towards house from the visitor reception.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 76cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.
