Summary

Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders.

- Canes and walking poles are also available to borrow free of charge.
These can be borrowed from the visitor reception or the house.
The visitor shuttle is stationed outside visitor reception, but can be summoned to the house, car park, chapel or garden by using the call point in the car park or by speaking to a member of staff or volunteer.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located to the right after you have exited the visitor reception.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland and gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, cobbled, grass and gravel.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- Parts of the area are on a hill and there are steep slopes to and from these areas. These are mainly at the rear of the house.
- There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.
Hikes and Trails (Garden Trail)
- The trail is approximately 1/4 of a mile long.
- Turn right out of the visitor reception through an archway, and take the first path on the right.
Take the path on the right up a very steep slope and turn left to go around the top of the house.
Follow this path to go through the dairy gate, which is self-closing and has a width of 125cm.
Take the path to the left past the toilet block. This path will then lead to the garden at the rear of the house. - The trail is not open 24 hours.
- None of the paths are lit at night.
- The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, cobbled and compacted gravel.
- Some of the route contains steep gradients.
- These are found in the following areas: near the start of the trail, on the approach up to the chapel.
- There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
- The route is clearly signposted.
- The route has handheld maps.
- Seating is available on the route.
- There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.
Entrance (Lady Cott / Bear's Hut)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front right of the Lady Cott/Bears Hut.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 63cm.
- The entrance opening does not have a minimum height of 200cm.
- The entrance opening height is 170cm.
- There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 60cm.
- The second opening height is 170cm.
Attraction / Exhibit (Lady Cott / Bear's Hut)
- The majority of walkway widths are under 120cm.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There are bench seats available in the area.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
- Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
- Lighting levels are varied.
Entrance (Old Dairy Toilet Block)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front left of the toilet block.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are double manual gates which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 158cm.
Toilet with Adaptations (Old Dairy Toilet Block - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)
- This toilet is located in the toilet block, in the top area of the garden.
- There is step-free level access into the toilet.
- This toilet is approximately 1m from the toilet block entrance.
- There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
- The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the toilet door opening is 88cm.
- The door has a lever twist lock.
- The dimensions of the cubicle are 154cm x 219cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
- There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
- The lateral transfer space is 87cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
- There is a spatula flush on the right transfer side.
- The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
- There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
- The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder and wash basin.

- The width of the door opening is 69cm.
- Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
- The gender neutral toilet was surveyed.
- The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
- Lighting levels are bright.
- There are no hand dryers.
