Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (the Gardens)

  • From the Visitor Reception exit, turn right and follow the path.
    Just before the house, turn left for South Lake or right for the majority of the gardens which surround the house.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope and is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located at the side of the house by the visitor centre kiosk.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: loose chippings, block paving, gravel, bonded gravel, compact earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There is a steep slope up along the path from the Cutting Garden through the Orchard, followed by a similar slope down.
    There are slight and steep slopes along the pathways around South Lake.
    There are numerous slight and steep pathways around the gardens, particularly alongside the North Lake and North Lawn.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a fenced play area with an entrance over 100cm wide.
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is in easy reach for seated and standing users, and users of different heights.
    • The following play experiences are available: balancing, viewing, sensory (visual, audible and or tactile).
    • The Natural Play Area is at the far end of the gardens, beyond the North Lake.
