Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception or the manor. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • All-terrain wheelchairs are also available.

Route to (German Forest Walk)

  • From the main car park take the pedestrian exit.
    Continue on the path to the admissions hut.
    The entrance to the German Forest Walk is located on the right of the pathway.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, gravel and muddy.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located off the pathway between the main car park and the admissions hut.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are sloped gradients throughout.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (German Forest Walk)

  • The trail is approximately 2 miles long.
  • The route takes you from just outside the main car park, through Hanging and Flagmore Woods.
    The end point brings you to the central area of the site where the café is located.
  • The trail is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: loose chippings and grass.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: throughout the route.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards without maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
