Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a mountain trike. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • A mountain trike all-terrain push wheelchair can be borrowed free of charge and can be reserved by emailing hindhead@nationaltrust.org.uk. There is a 17st / 100kg weight restriction.

Route to (Devil's Punch Bowl Cafe)

  • Visitors follow the path from the car park to the café directly ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (Main)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 169cm.
  • There is a second set of automatic doors which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 175cm.
  • There are push pads to exit the café at a height of 70cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, takeaway cutlery and a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are bright.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.

    • The facility is additional to standard and accessible toilets, and is located close to other managed facilities.

    • The door is manual, opens by sliding and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 95cm.
    • The door has a push button lock.
    • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
    • The door does not have a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 367cm x 284cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View

Toilet with Adaptations (Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located at the rear of the café building.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 10m from the café entrance.
  • There is tactile, pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 94cm.
  • The door has a locking handle (with a RADAR key to access).
  • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 177cm x 205cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 95cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
