Access Guide
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders and fidget toys.
- You can borrow these from Visitor Reception and The House. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
- The wheelchair available is all-terrain.
Baby hip carriers are available to borrow from the Visitor Reception.
Braille copies of Beatrix's tales are available to read at Visitor Reception.

Route to (Hill Top Gardens)
- The route leads you from the car park, along the side of B5285, where you turn right into the property and up steps to gain access into the gardens.
- The route to the area includes more than 3 steps without a handrail.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, concrete and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located just past the shop.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass and block paving.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
- There are slight slopes alongside the grassed area and steps at the rear garden.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Standard Toilet
- Access into the toilet is via steps.
- There are 3 steps, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
- The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
- The width of the door opening is 83cm.
- Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
- The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
- The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 78cm.
- There is an ambulant cubicle available with a horizontal grab rail on the right.
- There are additional ambulant cubicles with differing rail configurations.
- The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
