Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders and accessible maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Gift Shop)

  • From the visitor reception proceed down a slope, continue through an archway and then turn left.
    Cross the internal driveway and go through the gates.
    Proceed ahead towards the main courtyard, turn right and go through the open gates.
    Continue ahead into the rear courtyard and turn right.
    The main entrance is located to the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, paving stones and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • To access the gift shop via the stepped entrance, turn right once in the main courtyard and the shop is located on the left.

Entrance (Main)

  • The entrance surveyed is located in the rear courtyard.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There is a single automatic door which opens by sliding.
  • The width of the opening is 145cm.

Entrance (Alternative)

  • The entrance surveyed is located in the main courtyard.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is under 75cm wide.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 92cm.

Shop

  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • Some flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
  • There is step-free level access around the shop.
  • There is background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.

  • There is a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
