Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (the Parkland)

  • From visitor reception, follow the path ahead to the house.
    Pass the front of the house, then turn left.
    The gate to the open parkland is ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located just past the house and to the left.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
  • The gate is not self-closing.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 85cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass, compact earth, rubber matting and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are slight and steep slopes throughout the parkland.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have easy open gates which may create obstacles for some users.

Hikes and Trails (Fanny Boscawen's Walk)

  • The walk is approximately 890 metres long.
  • From visitor reception, take the path to the right, along the edge of the estate. The path here is steep in places.
    When the path splits, take the left path, and continue to the easy-open gate into the main park.
    Follow the path until you reach another easy-open gate on the left.
    Go through this gate and follow the path back to the house.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, loose chippings, compacted gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: throughout, with the steepest in the first section of path at the edge of the estate.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has handheld maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.

Picnic Area (Sheepwash Pond)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located to the far left from the access point, towards the front of the estate.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 76cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.

Picnic Area (Little Wix Wood)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located at the far end of the estate, to the rear of the house.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are bench seats and picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 76cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 98cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.
