Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (Orangery Café)
- From the rear of the blue badge parking, turn left and follow the path round to the right until you reach the junction.
At the junction, turn right and continue along the path to the rear of the Orangery Café building.
To the rear right of the building there is a gate which is permanently held open that leads into the Kitchen Garden.
After the gate, turn left and the entrance to the Orangery Café will be on the left. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are concrete and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

- This route is the most accessible route to the café.
There is additional stepped access to the Orangery Café from the main grounds and the South Terrace/Plats.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The very steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- The ramp overcomes the steps.
- Please contact the Orangery Café staff for use of the portable ramp.
- There are 2 steps, which are unmarkedno handrails.
- Some of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 85cm.
- There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 86cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of more than 1.5cm.
- There is a steep downwards slope in the threshold of the second set of doors.
Eating and Drinking
- This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
- There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
- Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
- Menu types include: written wall menus and menu boards.
- Menus are not easy to read (unclear font with poorly contrasting colours).
- The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups and a portable card machine for payment.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
- There is background noise here.
- There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.
- The counter is 92cm high.
- There is not a section of the counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- There is step-free level access around the seating area.
- There are tables, high tables, bench seats, high stools and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the seating area.
- The seating area does not have: room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) and a priority table.
- Tables are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The surface height of the tables is 73cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
- Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.
- There is additional outdoor seating in front of the café building and within the Kitchen Garden.
