Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and running buggies. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • A visitor shuttle is available to take people from the car park to the visitor reception.

Route to (the Barn Café)

  • Exit the visitor reception through the archway and turn immediately left up a steep cobbled slope.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located in front of the café and toilets.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 73cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 73cm.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to cobbles.

Entrance (Café Counter)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 223cm.
  • There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 88cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Entrance (Café Seating)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front right of the building.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The steep slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 99cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, a portable card machine for payment and large-handled mugs.
  • Lighting levels are bright.

Toilet with Adaptations (Barn Café - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located down the cobbled slope from the café and then left in the stable block.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 86cm.
  • The door has a twist lock.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 149cm x 168cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.

Parent and Baby Room / Baby Feeding Room (Barn Café)

  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 84cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • The height of the baby change table is 107cm.
  • There is no seating available in the room.
