Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, binoculars, magnifying glass, activity sheets, soft toy, communication cards, accessible maps and sensory maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Stables)

  • Turn left out of the welcome hut and go down the track, through an open gate and pass to the left of the Piggery Tea Room.
    The stables are on the right after the Piggery Tea Room.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and cobbles.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance (Right)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the front right of the building.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 131cm.
  • There are cobbles on the approach to the entrance.

Entrance (Left)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the front left of the building.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 2 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
  • The width of the opening is 125cm.
  • There are cobbles on the approach to the entrance.

Attraction / Exhibit

  • The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board.
  • The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There is stepped access at doorways.
