Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, binoculars, magnifying glass, activity sheets, soft toy, communication cards, accessible maps and sensory maps.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Side Garden)

  • Turn left out of the welcome hut and go down the track, through an open gate and pass to the left of the Piggery Tea Room.
    After the stables, but before you reach the house, follow the track left down a slope.
    Then turn right through open gates to face the front of the house.
    Take the ramps to the left past the external standard toilets.
    Turn right after the second set of ramps up a gravel path to the garden which is straight ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel, muddy, cobbles and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the right after the house.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails and slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • The slopes and steps are in various location around the garden.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
