Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair and cycles. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.

  • There are charges to borrow the cycles.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Pleasure Grounds)

  • Head to the right from the Blue Badge parking area, then turn right.
    Follow the path down hill, then turn to the right onto the path leading to the mansion.
    Pass the front of the mansion, and the pleasure grounds are ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located along the path past the front of the mansion.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: cobbled, grass and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails, less than 3 steps without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are slight and steep slopes throughout.
    There is stepped access to a seating area.
    There are 12 steps leading up to the Ice House.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (Blue Trail)

  • The trail is approximately 2.2 miles long.
  • From the Blue Badge parking area, follow the path towards the visitor centre, and take the signed path on the right for the Blue Trail.
    Follow the path through the woodlands as it goes around the estate to the pleasure grounds.
    Follow the path up through the pleasure grounds to the front of the mansion.
  • The hike is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients.
  • These are found in the following areas: leading up through the pleasure grounds.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps, handheld maps and online maps.
  • Seating is not available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
