Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys and soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Visitor Centre

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 138cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the visitor centre.
  • The majority of aisle widths are under 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) within the majority of the visitor centre.
  • The flooring is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • There is step-free access to the counter via slope.
  • The height of the counter is 92cm.
  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.

  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 115cm x 230cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is not a lateral transfer space next to the seat.
  • There is a spatula flush on the right, but there is no transfer space.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the right as you face the toilet, a vertical grab rail on the left as you face the toilet and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the left as you face the seat.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder, wash basin and soap dispenser.
