Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, accessible maps and sensory maps.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Wild Play Area)

  • From the visitor reception exit, head up the main path to the right.
    At the Discovery Cabin, take the lower path and follow it all the way round up a steep slope.
    At the Old Stables Tearoom, head left, and the play area is ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • The visitor shuttle can take people to the top of the main steep slope, but not all the way to the play area.

Outdoor Spaces (Wild Play Area)

  • This information is for the access point located to the right before the Old Stables Tearoom.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: wood bark, grass and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • The ground has varying slopes throughout.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is not in easy reach for a range of users.
    • The following play experiences are available: swinging, climbing, balancing and crawling.
