Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, accessible maps and sensory maps.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a mobility scooter. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Rose Garden and North Garden)
- From the visitor reception exit, head up the main path to the right.
At the Discovery Cabin, take the upper path to the right.
The Rose Garden and North Garden are ahead. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, paving stones and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
- The visitor shuttle can take people to the top of the main steep slope (to the Discovery Cabin), but not all the way to the gardens.
Outdoor Spaces (Rose Garden)
- This information is for the access point located along the North Garden path.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The width of the gap is 120cm.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and block paving.
- Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
- There are steps from the path down to the main garden.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The Rose Garden can also be accessed from the South Garden path, via a steep slope and gate rather than steps.
Outdoor Spaces (North Garden)
- This information is for the access point located along the North Garden path.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac and grass.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes with handrails and steep ramps/slopes with handrails in the main areas .
- The path through the North Garden has slight and steep slopes throughout.
- There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
