Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, accessible maps and sensory maps.

Route to (the Rock Garden, Wildflower Meadow and South Garden)

  • From the visitor reception exit, head up the main path to the right.
    At the Discovery Cabin, take the lower path to the left.
    Along this path, the entrance to the Rock Garden is on the right, followed by the Wildflower Meadow on the left.
    The entrance to the South Garden is ahead.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • The visitor shuttle can take people to the top of the main steep slope (to the Discovery Cabin), but not all the way to the gardens.

Outdoor Spaces (Rock Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located along the South Garden path, on the right.
  • Access into the area is via a step.
  • There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
  • The gate is not self-closing.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 106cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: formal gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes with handrails, more than 3 steps without handrails and slight ramps/slopes with handrails in the main areas .
  • The surface throughout the Rock Garden is uneven, with rocks set as paving stones in the gravel.
    The route from the access point to the main feature (the pool) is mostly made up of slight slopes.
    The route from the pool to the second access point (from the North Garden Path) has steep slopes and multiple steps.

Outdoor Spaces (Wildflower Meadow)

  • This information is for the access point located along the South Garden path, then to the left.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • The meadow has slight and steep slopes throughout.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Outdoor Spaces (South Garden)

  • This information is for the access point located along the South Garden path.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The gate has a latch lock.
  • The width of the gap is 140cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails and slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • The path through the garden becomes steeply sloped further into the garden.
