Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, accessible maps and sensory maps.

Route to (the Discovery Cabin)
- From the visitor reception exit, head up the main path to the right.
The Discovery Cabin is at the top of the steep hill. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
- There is a call button at the rear of the cabin to request the shuttle for the return journey back to the visitor reception.
The button height is 85cm.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building, accessed from the left side of the porch.
- There is stepped access at the entrance.
- There is 1 step, which is unmarked, with no handrails.
- The step is not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
- There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 57cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.
Attraction / Exhibit
- The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: pictorial, information board and television/screen.
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There are bench seats available in the area.
- Flooring in the area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
