Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • The tramper can be pre-booked to guarantee availability by phone or email.
    If it's not pre-booked it can be hired on the day.
    Only allow 1 booking is available per day, with no time limit on booking or use.
    Users must be over 14 years old.
    The venue is not a part of any pre-approval tramper schemes.

Route to (Old Lodge Café)

  • From the visitor centre follow the main drive downhill until you come to a crossroads.
    Turn right at the crossroads and follow the path downhill and then uphill. The Old Lodge Café is on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Picnic Area

  • The following information describes the picnic area located outside the front of the café.
  • Access into the area is via slight ramps/slopes.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are high tables, long tables, bench seats and picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 69cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 79cm.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 75cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 83cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs and some of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • Some of the surface in the picnic area in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass and gravel.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the café.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual gate which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 89cm.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance with a height of less than 1.5cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups and a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are low.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high without a tray rail.

Toilet with Adaptations (Old Lodge Café - Ambulant - Left Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the right of the café.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 20m from the café entrance.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 84cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 150cm x 190cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the left of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 88cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the non transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.

  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are hand dryers.
