Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: trampers. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • The trampers need to be booked prior to visiting.

Route to (the Natural Play Area and River Gardens)

  • From the visitor reception turn left taking the less sloped path.
    Continue along this path until you come to a fork and turn right.
    The play area will be on the left after a short distance.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Natural Play Area)

  • This information is for the access point located on the left off Mill Walk.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: wood bark and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There is a ramped bridge in the area.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is firm and even, but is less than 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is in easy reach for seated and standing users, and users of different heights.
    • The following play experiences are available: climbing, balancing and social play.

Outdoor Spaces (River Gardens)

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The access points to the area are located off Mill Walk.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • Lovers' Bridge with steep gradients is used to cross River Avill.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
