Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (the Orchard Tea Room)

  • After exiting visitor reception bear left then go through the gap at the end of the large wall.
    Follow the path until you reach a large building.
    The entrance to the tea room will be on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Picnic Area (Grass Area)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located on the grassed area opposite the entrance to the tea room.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 66cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 68cm.
  • The surface height of the lowest table is 74cm.
  • The surface height of the highest table is 74cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.

Picnic Area (Gravel Area)

Entrance

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a tea room which serves hot and cold snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.

    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is Braille, pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
    • A RADAR key is required for access to this facility.
    • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 104cm.
    • The door has a locking handle.
    • Internally the door has a high colour contrast.
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
    • The door has a horizontal grab rail.
    • The dimensions of the facility are 260cm x 500cm.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There are lateral transfer spaces on both sides of the seat.
    • The transfer space on the right as you face the toilet is 120cm.

    • The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
    • The towel dispenser is 94cm from the floor.
    • The hand dryer is 90cm from the floor.
    • The facility has: a full length mirror, a waste bin with lid, a nappy/incontinence items bin and a privacy screen.
    • There is a shelf located where it is reachable for seated and standing users.

    • The coat hooks are 105cm and 140cm from the floor.
    • Wide tear off paper roll is available.
    • The height of the wide paper roll dispenser is 90cm.
    • There is not a visual fire alarm beacon within the toilet.
    • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
    • The changing places facility is located between the visitor welcome building and the Orchard Café.

Toilet with Adaptations (Orchard Tea Room - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located to the right of the tea room.
  • Access into the toilet is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • This toilet is approximately 1m from the toilet block entrance.
  • There is pictorial and written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens both ways and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 81cm.
  • The door has a twist lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 157cm x 165cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 96cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a lever flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side and a vertical rail on the right side of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder.
