Summary

- The most accessible entrance has steps, a slight ramp/slope (which bypasses any steps) and manual doors.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, activity sheets and communication cards.

- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the House)
- After exiting visitor reception bear left and go through the gap at the far end of the large wall.
Follow the path past the large building, then turn left through the archway then turn right.
Keeping right follow the path then go through the large double gates.
The entrance to the house is on the left. - The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the house.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
- The slight ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the right going up.
- The ramp overcomes the steps.
- There are 5 steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- Steps are split with a resting area.
- There are double manual doors (with one door locked) which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 62cm.
- Staff can open the locked door to provide wider access.
Tour
- The tour is self-guided but volunteers/staff are available to provide additional information.
- The tour takes approximately 1 hour.
- There is stepped access along the tour route.
- The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
- The tour can be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
- Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via a photo album.
- There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
- Tour information includes the following formats: Braille and television/screen.
- Floor plans/maps are available for the tour route.
- The tour has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
- The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
- There are armchairs and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests at regular intervals along the tour.
- Some flooring along the tour route is smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.
- Some of the flooring includes large repeating patterns in bold colours, which may look like steps or holes to some people.
- Lighting levels are varied throughout the tour route.
Stairs (Up)
- The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1.
- There are more than 20 steps between floors.
- The steps are not clearly marked with a handrail on the right going up.
- The highest step is 15cm high.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
Stairs (Down)
- The floors which are accessible by stairs are 1, Galleries, B.
- There are more than 20 steps between floors.
- The steps are not clearly marked with a handrail on the right going down.
- The highest step is 16cm high.
- Lighting levels are varied.
Exit
- The exit is located in the basement.
- There is step-free access via ramp at the exit.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 102cm.
- There is a second manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 112cm.
- There is a slight ramp between 75cm and 150cm wide beyond the exit, with no handrails.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located opposite the exit.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There are tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The surface height of the lowest table is 74cm.
- The surface height of the highest table is 74cm.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.
- The flooring in this area is also not smooth or even due to rough tarmac.
