Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, activity sheets and communication cards.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Garden)

  • After exiting visitor reception bear left and go through the gap at the end of the large wall.
    Follow the path past the large building.
    Turn left through the archway then turn left again and follow the path.
    The entrance to the garden will be on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free level and is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The access points to the area are located on the left on the way to the house and also, across the cobbled courtyard near the stable courtyard second-hand bookshop.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 162cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are slight and steep slopes throughout the area.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
