Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: torch.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Mining Through the Ages Tour)
- Leave visitor reception via the exit and turn left.
The access point will be on the left after approximately 15 metres. - The route to the area is step-free level.
- Path surfaces along the route are gravel.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Tour
- The tour is guided.
- The tour takes approximately 1 hour.
- There is stepped access along the tour route.
- The majority of walkway widths are under 120cm.
- The tour can not be adapted to avoid inaccessible areas.
- Areas with stepped access only can be experienced by visitors via a photo album.
- There is no (or very little) background noise along the tour route.
- The tour does not have a hearing assistance system.
- There are no seats at regular intervals along the tour.
- Flooring along the tour route is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to compacted earth paths and gravel.
- Lighting levels are low along parts of the tour route.
- There are multiple steps and steep gradients to overcome throughout the tour.
