Summary

Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: torch.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Estate Countryside)
- Leave visitor reception via the entrance, and head down a long steep slope for approximately 40 metres.
Go through the Gold Mines Car Park for approximately 10 metres before reaching an unmanned and unmarked road crossing.
Crossing this road will take you into the Woodland Car Park.
The access point is at the rear of the car park. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located at the rear of the woodland car park.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel, loose stones and wood.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- There are slight slopes throughout the area.
- There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The paths have gates and kissing gates which may create obstacles for some users.
Hikes and Trails (Parkland Trail)
- The trail is approximately 2 miles long.
- The trail is a circular walk and can take approximately 2 hours to complete.
The trail starts at the Woodland Car Park, following a well signposted gravel path.
The path continues past the campsite with some slight slopes throughout.
You will eventually reach a gate with a steep slope either side.
Following the signposted path takes you across a bridge and along the stream through more gates and across flat parkland.
There are steps leading into the small woodland section of the trail.
The trail then continues to the left and eventually out to the road which leads you back to the Woodland Car Park. - The trail is open 24 hours.
- None of the paths are lit at night.
- The route includes the following surfaces: loose chippings, grass, gravel, bonded gravel, wood and mud.
- Some of the route contains steep gradients and steps.
- These are found in the following areas: before you join the river and to access the small woodland section of the trail.
- There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
- The route is clearly signposted.
- Seating is not available on the route.
- There are no toilet facilities along the route.
