Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

Route to (the Walled Garden)
- Exit the visitor reception and follow the path to the left.
Cross the driveway and continue ahead.
Pass through an archway and continue ahead down a long slope.
Halfway down, turn right, proceed ahead and turn left.
Continue ahead down a slope towards the end. On the right there is a rubber matted pathway that takes you to the garden. - The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and cobbles.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
- The visitor shuttle can carry a folded manual wheelchair.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located at the corner of the garden.
- There is step-free level access into the area.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
- The width of the gap is 110cm.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, cobbled, grass and compact earth.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are less than 3 steps without handrails, slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
- There are some slight and steep slopes to reach the furthest end of the walled garden.
There are stone steps into a small terraced area.
There is a slight slope with an access gate within the walled garden to access the glasshouse area. - There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The paths have easy open gates which may create obstacles for some users.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located within the walled garden.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are picnic tables.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 70cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 70cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 78cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to grass.
- There is one picnic table available.
