Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, magnifying glass and activity sheets.
  • You can borrow these from the shop, business support or the house. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Rock Garden and Pinetum)

  • Exit the main car park and head towards the house.
    Go through both arches and turn right to the front of the house.
    There is a path ahead which leads to the rock garden and continues down to the pinetum.
  • The route to the area is step-free level, is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located on the right side of the house.
  • Access into the area is via steps.
  • There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 94cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are irregular stone steps all around the rock garden.
  • There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
