Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, magnifying glass and activity sheets.
- You can borrow these from the shop, business support or the house. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Powerhouse and Waterwheel)
- Exit the main car park and head towards the house.
Go through both arches and continue ahead on the right path.
Halfway down the path, before the private area, turn right and go down the slope.
Continue along the slope and then turn left.
Follow the path to the powerhouse and waterwheel.
There are several sets of stone, uneven steps along the route. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope, is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope and includes more than 3 steps without a handrail.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, muddy and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Entrance
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the building.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There are double manual doors which are permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 148cm.
Attraction / Exhibit
- The majority of walkway widths are over 180cm.
- There is no (or very little) background noise here.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board and interactive exhibits at a recommended height for wheelchair users (between 75cm - 120cm).
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- There are bench seats available in the area.
- All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
- Lighting levels are moderate to good.
