Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, magnifying glass and activity sheets.
- You can borrow these from the shop, business support or the house. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located at the end of the main car park.
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland and woodland.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, uncompacted earth and loose stones.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- There are slight and steep slopes along the trails around the route.
- There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- Dunkirk, Cragend, Blackburn, Crozier, Nelly’s Moss, Canada and Moorside car parks are around the circular drive.
Picnic Area (Blackburn Lake)
- The following information describes the picnic area located in the Blackburn Lake car park.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There are picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are not available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 71cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 75cm.
- The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 75cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to compacted earth and loose chippings.
