Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs, a running buggy and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the Information Centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • All mobility equipment is available to borrow free of charge.
    There is also a free shuttle bus that visitors can request to take them to the Conservatory Café or riverside.
    The shuttle bus is wheelchair accessible.
    There are securing clamps inside to secure wheelchairs.
    The shuttle bus has a working hearing loop.

Route to (Conservatory Café)

  • From the Information Centre, turn right and follow the path towards the Walled Garden gates with the Nancy Astor initials (“NA”).
    After the gates, turn right and follow the road round to the left and continue straight towards Cliveden House.
    At the top of the road you will reach a junction.
    At the junction, turn left and the Conservatory Café will be located on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, cobbles and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Standard Toilet (Ambulant)

  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 84cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • The shared standard toilet was surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 84cm.
  • There is an ambulant cubicle available with a horizontal grab rail on the right and a dropdown rail on the left.
  • The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are hand dryers.
  • There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

Standard Toilet (Male and Female)

  • Access into the toilet is via slight ramps/slopes.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a high colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 75cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of more than 1.5cm.
  • The male and female standard toilets were surveyed.
  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 70cm.
  • The wash basin tap type is push.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are hand dryers.

Entrance (Level Access)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the centre of the Conservatory Café building.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single automatic door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 85cm.

Entrance (Sloped Access)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the right of the Conservatory Café building.
  • There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
  • The slight slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a single automatic door which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 90cm.

Entrance (Manual Door)

  • The entrance surveyed is located to the left side of the Conservatory Café.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door (with a locked extension leaf) which opens towards you.
  • The width of the opening is 70cm.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold meals and snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus and menu boards.
  • Menus are not easy to read (unclear font with poorly contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery, a portable card machine for payment, large-handled mugs and large-handled cutlery.
