Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders and fidget toys.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • Sensory packs also include anxiety control items, easy reading materials and materials in Braille.
    There are tactile resources which reflect the collection available on request from the house.

Route to (Walled Gardens)

  • Take the pathway to the right of the Visitors Centre.
    At the top of the slope, turn left by the signpost. The pathway leads to the entrance gate for the rose garden.
    Follow the path to the rear of the house and continue right round this.
    At the junction. continue straight down the sloping path through the orchard.
    At the end turn right and through the arched gateway into the walled garden.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope, is step-free via a steep ramp/slope and is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are paving stones and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located to the right of the studio.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 102cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: block paving, gravel and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are 4 steps directly ahead through the gate to access The Marycot.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
