Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders and fidget toys.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • Sensory packs also include anxiety control items, easy reading materials and materials in Braille.
    There are tactile resources which reflect the collection available on request from the house.

Route to (Landemare Café)

  • Proceed directly ahead from the car park and the café is ahead on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Entrance

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the front right of the building.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The steep ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with a handrail on the right going up.
  • The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • There are 2 steps, which are clearly markedhandrails on both sides.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • All of the steps are not at the recommended height (between 15cm - 18cm).
  • There are double manual doors which open away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 133cm.
  • There is a slight slope at the threshold of the doors.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a café which serves hot and cold snacks.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: large print menus and written wall menus.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: a portable card machine for payment.
  • Lighting levels are varied.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • The counter is 85cm high.
  • There is step-free level access around the seating area.
  • There are tables, bench seats and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the seating area.
  • The seating area does not have: a priority table.
  • There are some tables which are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The surface height of the tables is 73cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: some of the chairs.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to carpet.

Lift

  • This lift is a platform lift.
  • A member of staff does not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1.
  • Externally the lift has: a door with a low colour contrast to the surroundings, buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings, controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user and tactile markings.
  • The lift does have a recommended turning space (150cm x 150cm) in front of it.
  • The lift door opening width is 80cm.
  • The dimensions of the lift are 90cm x 140cm.
  • Internally the lift has: controls at a suitable height for a wheelchair user, buttons with a high colour contrast to the surroundings, a visual floor indicator and an audible announcer.
  • Lighting levels are bright.

Stairs

  • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1.
  • There are more than 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked with handrails on both sides.
  • The highest step is 19cm high.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.

Toilet with Adaptations (Landemare Café - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located on the first floor, ahead and on the left after you exit the lift.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • This toilet is approximately 8m from the lift.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 94cm.
  • The door has a lever twist lock.
  • There is a small lip on the threshold of the doorway with a height of less than 1.5cm.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 149cm x 217cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat but it is obstructed.
  • The lateral transfer space is 81cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a spatula flush on the transfer side.
  • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door, a horizontal grab rail on the non transfer side, a vertical grab rail on the transfer side and vertical grab rails on both sides of the wash basin.
  • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
  • The following fixtures can be reached from the toilet seat: toilet roll holder and wash basin.
  • The following fixtures cannot be reached from the toilet seat: soap dispenser, towel dispenser and hand dryer.

  • The cubicle has: a nappy/incontinence items bin, a sanitary bin, a pedal bin and a padded back rest for seat.
  • The cubicle does not have a full length mirror.
  • There are coat hooks in the toilet at 100cm and 174cm from the floor.
  • The following have a high colour contrast with their surroundings: all grab rails, the toilet seat and the dropdown rail.
  • The following have a less clear colour contrast with their surroundings: the floor and the internal door.
  • Lighting levels are bright.

Standard Toilet (Landemare Café)

  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.

  • The width of the widest cubicle door opening is 57cm.

  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There are no hand dryers.
