Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and cycles. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass, soft toy and communication cards.
  • You can borrow these from the stableyard visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: mobility scooters. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

  • There are children's bikes available to borrow.
    There is an accessible bus that goes to the stableyard and back from the overflow car park on busy days only.

Route to (the Victorian Sunken Garden)

  • Exit the main car park and cross the road using the zebra crossing.
    Follow the road down and the garden will be on the right before you reach the stableyard.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Outdoor Spaces

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • The access points to the area are located off the road to the stableyard from the main car park and there is another entrance from the grounds at the other end of the garden.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The width of the gap is 110cm.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are steps to access the top of the garden and to go down into the sunken part of the garden.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
