Summary

Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.

- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance.

- There are charges to borrow a tramper.
- A volunteer driven buggy shuttle is available to transport between the visitor centre and castle.
Wheelchair users will need to transfer from their chair.
Route to (the Rhododendron Garden)
- Exit the rear of the visitor centre and follow the path to the road.
At the road turn right down a slope.
Before getting to the castle turn right along a gravel path.
Follow this path around and down to the gate for the garden. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel and bonded gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces
- This information is for the access point located to the right of the path from the visitor centre to the castle, just before you reach the entrance to the castle.
- Access into the area is via a very steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
- The gate is self-closing.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: gravel, uncompacted earth and loose stones.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
- The outdoor space is on the side of a hill, and there are steep slopes in various locations throughout the area.
- There are not any bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
- The paths have gates which may create obstacles for some users.
- There are exposed tree roots along some of the paths.
Exit
- The exit is located at the rear of the garden, towards the castle.
- There is step-free access via slope at the exit.
- There is a single manual gate which opens away from you.
- The width of the opening is 175cm.
- There is a steep slope over 150cm wide beyond the exit.
- The gate leads to Castle Walk.
