Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from the visitor centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: a tramper. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance.

- There are charges to borrow a tramper.
- A volunteer driven buggy shuttle is available to transport between the visitor centre and castle.
Wheelchair users will need to transfer from their chair.
Route to (the Chapel)
- Exit the rear of the visitor centre and follow the path to the road.
At the road turn right down a slope.
The castle will be in front of you.
Access to the chapel is to the left of the castle entrance, down 37 steps through various archways. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope and includes more than 3 steps without a handrail.
- Path surfaces along the route are tarmac, gravel, grass and paving stones.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.
Entrance (Chapel)
- The entrance surveyed is located at the front of the chapel.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 120cm.
- The door is only partially held open to a width of 60cm.
Event Space (Chapel)
- There is step-free level access into the activity area.
- There is step-free level access around some of the space.
- There is stepped access to the bench seating area.
- All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
- The majority of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
- Lighting levels are low.
- There are bench seats and a mixture of chairs with and without armrests available in the space.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs.
- The space does not have a hearing assistance system.
Entrance (Attraction / Exhibit)
- The entrance surveyed is located to the left of the chapel entrance.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
- The width of the opening is 120cm.
Attraction / Exhibit
- The majority of walkway widths are between 120cm and 180cm.
- There is background noise here.
- The following may be experienced on the tour: water effects and interactive video effects.
- Exhibit information includes the following formats: information board and television/screen.
- The exhibits do not have hearing assistance systems.
- There is step-free level access around the area.
- All flooring in the area is smooth and even.
- Lighting levels are low.
