Summary

Route to (the Parkland)

  • There is open access to the parkland from all areas of the site, but the green route is the most accessible.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces (Parkland)

  • The access points to the area are located from the car park onwards in all directions.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground, parkland, woodland and gardens.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: loose chippings, grass, bonded gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are slopes of varying degrees throughout the parkland.
    A map of the most accessible paths in the parkland is available from the visitor reception.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a fenced play area with an entrance under 100cm wide.
    • The gate may be difficult to open and does not have a high colour contrast with the fence.
    • The play equipment is not in easy reach for a range of users.
    • The following play experiences are available: swinging, sliding, rocking, climbing and balancing.

Hikes and Trails

  • The trail is approximately 3.7 or 6.4 miles long.
  • There are several trails throughout the parkland.
    The tramway trail is suitable for the tramper but not for mobility scooters as there are steep and muddy areas along the route.
  • The trail is open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: loose chippings, grass, bonded gravel and mud.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: throughout the route.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps, handheld maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: cycles and electric cycles. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • There are charges to borrow the cycles and electric cycles.
  • You can borrow or hire the following mobility vehicles: trampers. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
