Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and mountain trikes. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, sunglasses, binoculars, magnifying glass, activity sheets and soft toy.
  • You can borrow these from the visitor centre. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Countryside)

  • From the reception building, turn left and follow the walled path to the open grassed area.
    This area has different pathways into the open countryside.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible shuttle which can take visitors to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located at the rear of the visitor reception.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: woodland and open countryside.
  • The outdoor facilities also include: coastal paths.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel, compact earth and loose stones.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • The slight slopes are along the pathway. There are steep slopes on some of the woodland pathways.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.

Hikes and Trails (Accessible)

  • The walk is approximately 35 minutes.
  • The circular walk begins and ends back at the visitor reception.
    It follows a level path which, at points, has slight slopes.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: gravel.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has information boards with large maps, handheld maps and online maps.
  • Seating is available on the route.
  • There are standard and accessible toilet facilities along the route.

Outdoor Spaces (Natural Play Area)

  • This information is for the access point located along the accessible walk.
  • Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: compact earth and sand.
  • Footpaths are not available in all of the outdoor space.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas.
  • There are steep and slight slopes throughout the play area.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • Playground View
    • There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.
    • The play equipment is not in easy reach for a range of users.
    • The following play experiences are available: climbing and balancing.

Picnic Area (Natural Play Area)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located by the Natural Play Area.
  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There are bench seats and picnic tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • Adapted picnic tables are not available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 66cm.
  • The standard height for the underside of picnic tables is 73cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is no step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to compacted earth.
