Visitor Reception (Welcome Kiosk)

  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • This kiosk is the initial check-in for visitors.
    When the kiosk is staffed, visitors in cars are required to pull into the lay-by where a member of staff will attend. If a National Trust member, membership cards are scanned.
    Non-members are asked to proceed to the visitor reception by the Lower Brockhampton car park to pay the entrance fee.

Parking (Top Car Park)

Entrance (Toilet Block - Top Car Park)

  • The entrance surveyed is located in the top car park.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The slight ramp is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • There is an opening without doors .

Toilet with Adaptations (Top Car Park - Ambulant - Right Hand Transfer)

  • This toilet is located in the top car park.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the toilet door opening is 83cm.
  • The door has a twist lock.
  • The dimensions of the cubicle are 154cm x 155cm and it does not have a 150cm x 150cm turning space.
  • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat.
  • The lateral transfer space is 82cm from the side of the toilet pan to the wall.
  • There is a push button flush on the wall above the cistern.

  • The height of the baby change table is 108cm.

  • There is no seating available in the room.

Parking (Lower Brockhampton Car Park)

  • This is an open air car park with a tarmac, concrete and gravel surface.
  • Parking is free for all users.

  • The nearest Blue Badge bay is 53m from the visitor reception.

Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Visitor Reception

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The ramp is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, permanently held open and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 102cm.
  • Internally the door has a low colour contrast.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • There is room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm) within the majority of the area.
  • All flooring is smooth and even.
  • The majority of the flooring has a very shiny finish, which could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 89cm.
  • There is a low level section at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.

Picnic Area (Lower Brockhampton Car Pak / Visitor Reception)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located by the car park and visitor reception area.
  • Access into the area is via slight ramps/slopes.
  • The slope is over 150cm wide.
  • There are picnic tables.
  • Adapted picnic tables are available.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 64cm.
  • The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 71cm.
  • The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to compacted earth and grass.
  • Some of the picnic tables are on a grassed area adjacent to the Lower Brockhampton car park and some are next to the Visitor Recepton.
