Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs and a mountain trike. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
  • A wheeled walker is also available from the car park.

Exit (Visitor Reception)

  • The exit is located on the opposite side of the visitor reception.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the exit.
  • There are double automatic doors which open away from you.
  • There is a steep ramp between 75cm and 150cm wide beyond the exit, with handrails on both sides.
  • The ramp overcomes the steps.
  • There are 6 steps beyond the exit, which are unmarked, with handrails on both sides.
  • Steps are split with a resting area.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • All steps at the recommended height of between 15cm and 18cm.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located after exiting visitor reception.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, block paving and gravel.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails, less than 3 steps without handrails, slight ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .

    The steps can be avoided by using the sloped pathways.
