Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • You can borrow these from the tickets and information building. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Shop)

  • Pass to the right of the tickets and information building and turn left towards the rear patio of the Wharf Tea-room.
    The entrance to the shop is ahead on the left.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are gravel and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
  • There is an additional entrance to the shop directly from the car park. This entrance provides stepped access.

Shop

  • Access into the shop is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The door is manual, opens outwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
  • The width of the door opening is 119cm.
  • The majority of aisle widths are over 150cm.
  • All flooring in the shop is smooth and even.
  • There is step-free level access around the shop.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise here.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is step-free level access to the counter.
  • The height of the counter is 90cm.
  • There is not a low level counter at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The counter has windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
  • The counter has a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • Services/facilities available in the shop include: a portable card machine for payment and a member of staff to provide assistance.

Entrance (Alternative Shop Entrance from Car Park)

  • The entrance surveyed is located at the side of the shop facing the car park.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There are 5 steps, which are unmarkedhandrails on both sides.
  • The handrails cover all steps.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 96cm.
