Route to (Gardens - Western Terrace)
- Using the pathway to the right of the visitor centre, proceed ahead to the bottom of the path.
At the bottom of the path, turn left and go through the opening.
Proceed along the footpath, passing the tennis courts and bowling green.
The pathway brings you out in front of the house and lake.
At the lake, take the pathway left to the Italian Garden and Dahlia Walk.
The pathways have slight slopes on this route. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are compact earth and gravel.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
- The Italian Garden and Dahlia Walk are the only areas of the Western Terrace that are accessible to wheelchair users.
The remaining areas of the Western Terrace are stepped.
Outdoor Spaces (Western Terrace)
- Access into the area is via steps and a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is over 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are 10+ steps, which are unmarked, with no handrails.
- The access points to the area are located throughout the garden grounds.
Some of the access points are stepped access. - There is open access at the surveyed access point.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: gardens.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: cobbled, block paving, gravel, compact earth and uncompacted earth.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor space.
- The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is step-free level access around some of the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes with handrails, steep ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps with handrails in the main areas.
- There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: a manual wheelchair. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
