Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • With there only being one electric tramper, it is advised to book in advance.

Route to (the Old Servants' Tea-room)

  • From the visitor reception there is a pathway towards the hall.
    Take the right hand path towards the walled garden and the rear of the hall.
    There is a turn to the right which takes you into the stables area courtyard.
    The tea-room is on the left as you enter the courtyard.
  • The route to the area is step-free level.
  • Path surfaces along the route are compact earth, tarmac and bonded gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is a shuttle which can take visitors to this area, but wheelchair users will need to transfer into it.

Picnic Area (Courtyard)

  • The following information describes the picnic area located in the courtyard.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There are tables.
  • No chairs have armrests on both sides.
  • There is step-free level access around the area.
  • The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to gravel.

Changing Places (Courtyard - Right Hand Transfer)

  • Location and Access View
    • The facility is not additional to standard and accessible toilets, and is located close to other managed facilities.
    • There is step-free level access into the facility.
    • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
    • The door is manual, opens inwards and has a low colour contrast with the surrounding walls.
    • The width of the door opening is 84cm.
    • The door has a twist lock.
    • The door has a horizontal grab rail.
    • The ceiling height is at a minimum height of 2.4m and there is a clear 200cm x 180cm manoeuvring space in the facility.
    • The facility has not got a non-slip floor.
  • Toilet Details View
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the right of the seat.
    • The transfer space on the right as you face the toilet is 150cm.
    • The following grab rails are available: a horizontal grab rail on the door.
    • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
    • The following have a high colour contrast with their surroundings: all grab rails, the floor and the toilet seat.
    • The following have a less clear colour contrast with their surroundings: the dropdown rail and the internal door.
    • The toilet seat is 48cm above the floor.

    • There a pull cord emergency alarm but it is not at a recommended height (within 10cm from floor).

    • The length of the facility changing bench is 140cm.
    • The changing places hoist is powered overhead and covers all areas in the cubicle.

    • The wash basin tap type is lever mixer.
    • The towel dispenser is 74cm from the floor.
    • The facility has: a waste bin with lid and a sanitary bin.
    • The facility does not have a full length mirror and coat hooks.

    • Wide tear off paper roll is not available.
    • There is a baby change facility which is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.

Standard Toilet (Courtyard)

  • There is also a female toilet in the same location.

Entrance (Tea-room)

  • The entrance surveyed is located on the left after you enter the courtyard.
  • There is stepped access at the entrance.
  • There is a single manual door which is permanently open.
  • There is a second manual door which opens away from you.
  • There are 7 steps beyond the entrance, which are unmarked, with a handrail on the right going down.
  • The handrail covers all steps.

Eating and Drinking

  • This is a tea room which serves hot and cold snacks.
  • There is a counter where food and drink can be ordered.
  • Staff can provide assistance and offer service to tables.
  • Menu types include: written wall menus and menu boards.
  • Menus are easy to read (large clear font with contrasting colours).
  • The following are available here: drinking straws, takeaway cups, two handled cups, easy grip cutlery, takeaway cutlery and large-handled mugs.
  • Lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is background noise here which varies, depending on the time of day.
  • There is a clearly signed hearing assistance system.
  • The hearing assistance system was tested and working at the time of the survey.
  • There is a counter over 85cm high with a tray rail.
