Equipment and Resources to Borrow
- You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
- You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
- Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.
Route to (the Picnic and Natural Play Area)
- From the top of the car park, go through the gate for the picnic and natural play area.
For the picnic area, follow the path to the left, and for the natural play area, follow the path to the right. - The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
- Path surfaces along the route are compact earth and muddy.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no accessible shuttle to this area.
Outdoor Spaces (Natural Play Area)
- This information is for the access point located at the top of the car park.
- Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
- The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There is a gate at the surveyed access point which opens away from you (push).
- The gate is self-closing.
- The gate has a latch lock.
- The width of the gap is 149cm.
- The following outdoor facilities are available: a playground with play equipment.
- The outdoor facilities also include: a picnic area.
- The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: wood bark, grass and uncompacted earth.
- Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
- The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails and steep ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
- There is a steep slope leading down to the play area.
The play area surface has uneven ground, with slight and steep slopes throughout.

- There is a fenced play area with an entrance over 100cm wide.
- The gate may be difficult to open but has a high colour contrast with the fence.
- There is a route around the play equipment which is not firm and even, but is over 150cm wide.

- The following play experiences are available: swinging, climbing and balancing.
- There are picnic benches in the play area.
Picnic Area
- The following information describes the picnic area located at the top of the car park.
- Access into the area is via a steep ramp/slope.
- The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
- There are picnic tables.
- No chairs have armrests on both sides.
- Adapted picnic tables are available.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the lowest picnic table is 66cm.
- The distance between the floor and the underside of the highest picnic table is 72cm.
- The following furniture is permanently fixed: all of the chairs and all of the tables.
- There is no step-free level access around the area.
- The surface in the picnic area is not smooth and even.
- Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to compacted earth and grass.
