Equipment and Resources to Borrow

Route to (the Estate)

  • From visitor reception, pass through the open gateway to the left.
    Follow the path down and take the first path on the right.
    Go around the right side of the house and follow the path ahead out of the gardens.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a slight ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are tarmac and paving stones.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • This information is for the access point located at the end of the gardens, to the right of the house.
  • There is step-free level access into the area.
  • There is open access at the surveyed access point.
  • The width of the gap is 100cm.
  • The following outdoor facilities are available: parkland, woodland, farmland and open countryside.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: concrete or tarmac, grass and uncompacted earth.
  • Footpaths are available in some of the outdoor spaces.
  • The majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are steep ramps/slopes without handrails, slight ramps/slopes without handrails and more than 3 steps without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are steep and slight slopes throughout the forest paths.
    There are steps leading from the path to mill pond. These are used to access two of the walks.
  • There are some bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
  • The paths have gates and stiles which may create obstacles for some users.

Hikes and Trails (Ironmaster's Walk)

  • The walk is approximately 2 miles.
  • Follow the path to the right of the house out of the gardens.
    Ascend the steps and go through the gate to the mill pond.
    Go round the mill pond and continue along the bare earth path.
    Follow signs over the bridge and stile and cross the fields.
    The path joins the A265 and returns along Bateman's Lane to the car park.
  • The walk is not open 24 hours.
  • None of the paths are lit at night.
  • The route includes the following surfaces: tarmac, grass and compacted gravel.
  • Some of the route contains steep gradients and very uneven surfaces.
  • These are found in the following areas: forest paths and in Bateman's Lane.
  • There are no alternative routes to avoid these areas.
  • The route is clearly signposted.
  • The route has handheld maps.
  • Seating is not available on the route.
  • There are no toilet facilities along the route.
  • There are longer walks, covering different areas of the estate.
