Equipment and Resources to Borrow

  • You can borrow or hire the following equipment: manual wheelchairs. It is highly recommended that these are booked in advance, where this is possible. Please check the National Trust website for details.
  • Sensory packs can be borrowed which include: ear defenders, fidget toys, magnifying glass and activity sheets.
  • You can borrow these from visitor reception. View more information about booking and collection of equipment.
  • Powered mobility vehicles cannot be borrowed or hired.

Route to (the Formal Garden)

  • Take the exit road from the car park. At the point where cars turn right to exit, proceed across the road onto the path.
    Proceed through the open gates and the formal garden will be found on the right.
  • The route to the area is step-free via a very steep ramp/slope.
  • Path surfaces along the route are concrete and gravel.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is no accessible shuttle to this area.

Outdoor Spaces

  • Access into the area is via a slight ramp/slope.
  • The slope is between 75cm and 150cm wide, with no handrails.
  • The access points to the area are located on the east and west side of the garden.
  • There is a gate at the surveyed access point which is permanently held open.
  • The outdoor spaces include the following surfaces: grass, gravel and compact earth.
  • Footpaths are available in all of the outdoor space.
  • The majority of the paths are wide enough for wheelchair users.
  • There is step-free level access around some of the area.
  • There are slight ramps/slopes without handrails in the main areas .
  • There are slight slopes along the pathway running through the garden.
  • There are bench seats situated along the paths for people to rest.
